Maundy Thursday in Iceland (2022)

**Maundy Thursday in Iceland was observed on April 14, 2022, known locally as *Skírdagur*.** This Christian holiday, marking the day before Good Friday, was celebrated nationwide in Iceland that year. Traditionally, it holds religious significance tied to the Last Supper and Jesus’ washing of the disciples’ feet. While Iceland’s observance is less formal than in some countries, it remains part of the Easter season’s cultural and spiritual observances. | *Skírdagur*, derived from the word for "cleansing" or "washing," reflects the holiday’s biblical connection. | No, it was not a nationwide public holiday, though some churches held services or related events.
